May 2016:  CONCO – Africa’s largest service provider of power infrastructure solutions – with three decades of Africa-wide experience in distribution, transmission and power infrastructure development, has restructured the organisation to achieve an even stronger customer-centric focus.

CONCO’s Business Development Director, Clive Pillay says, “The organisation has made a strategic shift away from being project and solutions-specific to one where it is more customer-centric, to the extent that we’ve actually restructured the organisation to achieve this objective. The restructure has resulted in the split of the organisation into three main operating companies, namely, CONCO South Africa headed by Slu Gesha, CONCO International with Retief de Villiers at the helm, and CONCO Energy Solutions headed by Andreas Richelmann; the latter entity having evolved from an internally-focused business unit, servicing a variety of customers, to an autonomous company.

Focus on regionalisation
“Within this new structure, one of our key focus areas is regionalisation, where we are developing operational hubs in South Africa, East Africa, West and Central Africa, South Central Africa as well as the Middle East. We also have a very strong drive on localisation and local capacity-building in each one of these markets, as we believe this to be the best way to service our customers in those markets. We also believe that, in the near future, CONCO will have substantial operations in each one of these individual markets.

“With operational hubs, people, and equipment on the ground in the right places, we are able to quickly mobilise and respond to regional customers in the most cost-effective way. We understand that it’s vital to our regional customers to know that CONCO can speedily mobilise its teams and equipment to where they are needed.

Improving Competitiveness
“Another focus area is that of improving our competitiveness by developing strategic partnerships with global players, leveraging technology to improve performance both in tendering as well as in execution of projects, expanding the company’s portfolio to enable us to undertake larger, more complex projects, and finding ways to improve operational efficiencies. When it comes to providing turnkey solutions, we differentiate ourselves largely through our service rather than by a specific product or technology as we are product-agnostic and our focus is firmly on delivering customised solutions that meet the needs of our customers.

Growth
“We are continuously looking at alternative business models to see how we can improve the way we do business, as well as diversifying our business lines to look at alternative sources of revenue. The organisation is also a lot longer term focused, with an emphasis on building a five-year project pipeline by using better market intelligence to deliver. We are also looking at expanding our footprint into the Middle East and other new markets, thereby extending the group’s reach and exposure.

“Through our customer-centric approach, we hope to build a CONCO brand that will become entrenched with customers as the value adding solution partner of choice in the customer space,” Pillay concluded.
