Feedback from Africa Energy Forum in Mauritius

The Africa Energy Forum (AEF) is the global investment meeting for Africa’s power, energy, infrastructure and industrial sectors. Now in its 20th year, AEF brings together senior decision-makers active in Africa’s energy sector to form partnerships, identify opportunities and collectively move the industry forward. AEF has a loyal following of credible players working in the power space, and a track record of delivering a valuable networking experience.*

Under the CIG Power Division banner, CONCO and CONCO Energy Solutions, along with CIG subsidiaries Conlog, CIGenCo and Consolidated Power Maintenance, participated in the AEF held in Mauritius from 19 to 22 June 2018.

“It was an ideal venue to showcase our holistic solutions.”

CONCO CEO, David van Zyl, said the conference and exhibition was particularly beneficial. “It was well attended by high-end players in the energy space, creating a valuable opportunity for us to address delegates at the conference, coupled with our strong presence by way of exhibiting. The level of networking engagement was excellent with good leads acquired and many contacts made.

“As a group under the CIG Power Division, it was an ideal venue to showcase our holistic solutions and for customers and potential customers, from across Africa and the Middle East, to engage with executives from our subsidiary companies. Our combined offering of a multi-layered approach focused on end-to-end energy solutions for customers across the value chain, was a main focus,” he said.

“We are all in this together and our shared success can dramatically change lives.”

Raoul Gamsu, CEO of holding company Consolidated Infrastructure Group Limited (CIG), who spoke at the conference, appealed to stakeholders in the African power sector to work together as he believes, collectively, a dramatic impact on the continent can be made. “The increase in productivity provided by sound power infrastructure can dramatically change the lives of those who live on this continent. Children have light to read, manufacturers have the ability to produce high quality goods, intra-regional trade increases, hospitals can better serve their patients, and our cities rival those in Europe, North America and Asia. Yet, what prevents us from having a greater impact collectively?”, he questioned.

“The private sector has differing viewpoints to the public sector, and while I believe both arguments have merit, a key aspect of the current situation appears to have been ignored. We are all in this together and our shared success can dramatically change lives. This means that we must all work hard to deliver on our mandates while understanding varying viewpoints of those across the table. We need to listen to the other side”, he said.

Leading the way in Grid Services and Solutions

Frank Spencer in charge of business development for renewables at CONCO Energy Solutions, commented as follows about the event: “It’s the best conference I have attended. We acquired good contacts and leads, especially in regard to solar PV solutions and I envisage that one of CONCO Energy Solutions’ main focuses over the next 5 to 10 years will be solar PV projects. CONCO certainly stood out as a company with a strong African presence and good vertical integration and we are definitely at the cutting edge of technology for grid services and solutions.”
